See below for graphics of the newly posted COVID-19 numbers by the Virginia Department of Health and the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association. So, at this point (7/31), in Virginia we’re at 89,888 total reported – confirmed plus probable – cases (note that actual cases, as well as deaths, could be higher, maybe even a LOT higher, based on stories like this one in the NY Times), 7,866 hospitalizations and 2,174 deaths from COVID-19. The number of reported cases went up 984 (+1.1%) in the latest statistics, which is a slightly faster rate of increase than the day before, when reported cases were up 911 (+1.0%). The number of TOTAL test results was 1,211,622 (up 16,521 from 1,195,101 yesterday), which is still below what we need, according to researchers at Harvard (that would be 22,422/day for mitigation, 81,741/day for suppression).  As for hospitalizations, they went up 80 (+1.0%), from 7,786 to 7,866, which is a faster rate of increase than the day before, when hospitalizations were up 48 (+0.6%).  Deaths are reported up 33 (from 2,141 to 2,174), compared to an increase of 16 (from 2,125 to 2,141) the previous day.
