See below for graphics of the newly posted COVID-19 numbers by the Virginia Department of Health and the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association. So, at this point (8/28), in Virginia we’re at 117,592 total reported – confirmed plus probable – cases (note that actual cases, as well as deaths, could be higher, maybe even a LOT higher, based on stories like this one in the NY Times), 9,460 hospitalizations and 2,550 deaths from COVID-19. The number of reported cases went up 1,013 (+0.9%) in the latest statistics, which is a slightly slower rate of increase than the day before, when reported cases were up 1,121 (+1.0%). The number of PCR test results [note: for the second straight day, VDH didn’t update the total test results at the same time as all their other numbers, for whatever reason] was 1,539,290 (up 18,110 from 1,521,180 yesterday), which is still below what we need, according to researchers at Harvard (that would be 22,422/day for mitigation, 81,741/day for suppression). As for hospitalizations, they went up 69 (+0.7%), from 9,391 to 9,460, which is a the same rate of increase than the day before, when hospitalizations were up 65 (+0.7%).  Deaths are reported up 23 (from 2,527 to 2,550), compared up 12 (from 2,515 to 2,527) the previous day.
