So, at this point (9/4), in Virginia we’re at 124,779 total reported – confirmed plus probable – cases (note that actual cases, as well as deaths, could be higher, maybe even a LOT higher, based on stories like this one in the NY Times), 9,798 hospitalizations and 2,662 deaths from COVID-19. The number of reported cases went up 1,111 (+0.9%) in the latest statistics, which is the same rate of increase than the day before, when reported cases were up 1,126 (+0.9%). The number of TOTAL test results was 1,765,213 (up 16,123 from 1,619,053 yesterday), which is still well below what we need, according to researchers at Harvard (that would be 22,422/day for mitigation, 81,741/day for suppression). As for hospitalizations, they went up 57 (+0.6%), from 9,741 to 9,798, which is a slightly slower rate of increase than the day before, when hospitalizations were up 63 (+0.7%). Deaths are reported up 10 (from 2,652 to 2,662), compared up 11 (from 2,641 to 2,652) the previous day.
