In New Ad, Spanberger Emphasizes Her Strong Record of Service to Her Country & Community
While Serving at the CIA, Spanberger Worked Counterterrorism & Nonproliferation Cases; in Congress, She Continues to Fight for What is Right for Our Country Regardless of Party or Special Interest Attacks
GLEN ALLEN, VA — In her latest ad, Rep. Abigail Spanberger emphasizes her record of public service in law enforcement and at the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) — and how she has carried on that same mission in Congress representing Virginia’s Seventh District.
Spanberger began her career as a federal agent with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service investigating money laundering and narcotics cases. Later, she served as a case officer with the CIA, where she worked undercover to protect our national security, helping fight terrorism and nuclear proliferation to keep Americans safe.
“At CIA, we had one mission: to serve and protect America. That meant fighting terrorists and taking on personal risk to keep our country safe,” states Spanberger in the ad. “In Congress, I have the same mission, and I’ll take on anyone — lobbyists, special interests, even my own party — to do what’s right. False attack ads and the billionaires behind them won’t change that. For me, it’s always about service to country.”
From fighting to lower the cost of prescription drugs, to negotiating and passing the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), to strengthening border security and combating Central American trafficking and smuggling networks, Spanberger has always worked with her colleagues and built bipartisan consensus to best serve the Seventh District.
In recent months, Spanberger has stood up to party leadership in her calls for a bipartisan COVID-19 relief package that includes another round of direct payments to individuals, increased support to Central Virginia small businesses, and unemployment assistance.
Spanberger has consistently ranked as one of the most bipartisan Members of the U.S. House. Earlier this year, the Lugar Center ranked Spanberger as the most bipartisan Member of the Virginia congressional delegation. Additionally, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce awarded her with their first-ever “Jefferson-Hamilton Award for Bipartisanship.”
