Do As BP Says, Not As It Does?

h/t: Donald McEachin

UPDATE: In related news, 98% of Americans say the Gulf of Mexico oil spill is either a “disaster” or a “serious environmental problem;” 65% of Americans say we should pursue “criminal charges against BP and other companies involved in the oil spill;” and 73% of Americans say the spill was caused either a “great deal” or “good amount” by “unnecessary risks taken by BP and its drilling partners.”

All I can hope is that this disaster will convince a majority of Americans that the “Age of Deregulation” that began with the presidency of Ronald Reagan was a terrible mistake.

It seems that President Obama has to spend all his time – and his political capital – on cleaning up the “Augean Stables” left by earlier administrations.

    Meanwhile…the oil keeps pouring out.

    From Crooks and Liars Timeline:

“On October 22, 2007 Randall B. Luthi, Wyoming attorney, Cheney cohort and new director of MMS signed a “Finding of No New Significant Impact” (PDF) with regard to Lease Sale 206, also known as the Deepwater Horizon. This finding was the last barrier for BP to cross before plunging equipment 5000 feet under the ocean’s surface, using Halliburton fracture techniques to open the well, and beginning the flow of oil which ends as an environmental and economic disaster to Gulf inhabitants. No significant impact, indeed.”
