    CWA Local 2222 Verizon Strike

As over 45,000 Verizon workers represented by the Communications Workers of America and International Brotherhood of Electric Workers strike up and down the East Coast to preserve middle class jobs, members of CWA Local 2222 picketed Verizon facilities in Springfield and Merrifield. Dozens of line installers and repair workers clad in red CWA shirts worked 6-hour shifts starting at 6 AM. I joined Democratic candidate for Delegate Jack Dobbyn (who I work as field director for) on the picket lines this morning.

If you drive past the picket lines today, don’t forget to honk!

    More photos after the flip.

      Go CWA!

    • Thanks for coming out to support our brothers and sisters. Just wanted to pass along CWA’s online petition to Verizon. Sign and share: http://t.co/6ROV3Bp

Verizon isn’t just the local phone company in the old Bell Atlantic/NYNEX territory.  There are Verizon sites in every state now, so this is very much a nationwide strike.

Jack Dobbyn’s campaign is funded by individuals.  Dave Albo is bought and paid for by big business and lobbyists.

Over the years Albo’s campaigns have taken $109,000+ from the communications industry, including $6,200 directly from Verizon.  I guess we won’t see Albo out supporting the workers….

For those who are not aware, the CWA represents many public employees also. In some states, such as NJ, they are the largest public employees bargaining group. This union represents a lot more people than just the “telephone guys”.
