With respect to Comstock and Senate: If either Senators Kaine or Warner are picked to be vice president and win in November, Governor McAuliffe appoints someone to fill the vacancy and then, “The election shall be held on the next succeeding November general election date.” So, if Senator Kaine becomes VP, his successor would, if he or she wishes to remain in the U.S. Senate, be on the November 2017 ballot and then again in November 2018. If Warner becomes VP, his successor would have to be on the November 2017 ballot and then again in 2020.
