Yesterday, the State Board of Elections posted finance reports by the candidates (except for Peter Fallon – emailed him to ask when his might be available) for Arlington County Board. Here are a few highlights.
*Democratic candidate Alan Howze raised $16,245, which was more than anyone else in the race.
*Howze had by far and away the most contributors of anyone in the field, with 92 contributors. That compares to just 17 for Republican (running as an “Independent”) John Vihstadt, and 0 contributors for Democratic candidate Cord Thomas (he’s apparently self funding, giving and/or loaning himself $12,470, in large part through his CRF Holdings LLC).
*Howze’s donors included Arlington School Board member Noah Simon, Arlington County Board member Jay Fisette, and Robert Adamson of McEnearney Associates (realtors), among many others.
*Republican John Vihstadt’s donors, not surprisingly, include many Republicans. For instance, John Bartlett has given nearly $30,000 to Virginia Republicans over the years, as well as thousands to federal GOP candidates such as George Allen, John McCain, Jim Gilmore, etc. Another donor, James Pebley, has given $5,000 to Virginia Republicans over the years, and zero to Democrats. Another big contribution to Vihstadt came from lifelong Democrat and County Board member Libby Garvey, who appears to be doubling down on her surprising (shocking, some would say) choice of a Republican for this opening.
P.S. I checked with Peter Fallon, and he said he filed his report on Wednesday; not sure why it isn’t posted yet.
UPDATE 1/22: Numbers for Peter Fallon are now available — $2,237 raised (about half from himself), $1,392 spent, $1,147 cash on hand as of 12/31/13.
