With Just 2 Weekends to Go, Bill Clinton Fires Up Virginia Democrats!

by: lowkell

Fri Oct 28, 2011 at 17:34:14 PM EDT

This evening, Bill Clinton was busy doing what he does best -- firing up Democrats for an important election. In this case, Clinton was at his friend Terry McAuliffe's house, speaking to Virginia Democrats and helping raise some serious $$$ to help us hold the State Senate and hopefully win a few House of Delegates seats as well. I'll post more photos if/when I see some good ones. This one's by Ashley, wife of superb Democratic candidate Shawn Mitchell  -- thanks, and go Shawn (running against the bat**** crazy right-wingnut and raging homophobe Dick Black)!

UPDATE: From Lis Smith's Twitter account:
*"@Terry_McAuliffe announces that his event raised over $1 mil for VA Sen Dems."
*"@Terry_McAuliffe on President Clinton's record: 'Dont ever let anyone tell you Democrats aren't for fiscal responsibility.'"
*"Clinton on @Terry_McAuliffe (aftr rousing intro): 'It's always so hard being with Terry. He's so repressed.'"
*"President Clinton going after R's voter suppression efforts: 'power is the motivation.'"
*"President Clinton: 'One of the best selling points for Democrats is that we still believe in arithmetic.'"

Also, Catherine S. Read reports that Clinton "[d]elivered a wonderful speech about the future of this country and how we fit into a 21st century global economy."

McAuliffe for Chairman (0.00 / 0)
Let's start a movement to make Terry McAuliffe the chair of the DPVA. That way, Brian Moran could focus all his energy on lobbying for for-profit "colleges" instead of spending 5% to 10% of his time as DPVA chair.

Hey, that path worked for Mark Warner. Chair of DPVA, then governor, then senator...then.....

Great thought, Elaine. I chair who actually does party work ? Heresy ? (0.00 / 0)
If Terry doesn't accept a draft for the job, I'd like to see Jon Bowerbank as chair. There's a man who would work as hard in that unpaid job as Terry would, and he actually knows most of the county committee chairs and the Central Committee members, all of whom greatly respect Jon and would be happy to work closely with him to rebuild the party.

Terry will be a great governor and Jon would be terrific as his LG running mate. That would be a great combo.

I guess I drifted just a bit off topic, which is the 2011 elections. Then we need to re-focus on the 2012 elections before we again re-focus on the 2013 elections. Do these election cycles ever end ? I think I need a world series break from politics, starting in 20 minutes. Go Cardinals (the Va. state bird, as you know).

I Second Jon Bowerbank for Chair (0.00 / 0)
As genuine as they come, beholding to no one (so far), and can run circles around Pat Mullins. He might actually do the DPVA's business.

Excellent thought (0.00 / 0)
Jon Bowerbank would be great for chair. He actually thinks the state has a western half (geographically, at least).

I want Terry to spend time builiding his Governor election organization (0.00 / 0)
Don't like have Brian in that DPVA Chair Slot, but love the party-building that Terry is doing right now (and it would take away his time from that if he were chair of the DPVA)... he's doing exactly what he should... we'll have a unified party when he runs for Governor.
