You're probably read the Politico story about the Eric
Cantor boondoggle, aka "CODEL" (Congressional delegation) to Israel, including "a late-night swim in the Sea of Galilee that involved drinking, numerous GOP freshmen lawmakers, top leadership staff - and one nude member of Congress." What jumped out at me was that, somehow, Eric Can'tor of all people comes off as the "grown up," supposedly having "rebuked the 30 lawmakers the morning after the Aug. 18, 2011, incident, saying they were distracting from the mission of the trip." That's fine, assuming it took place, except for one problem:Senior aides also jumped into the Sea of Galilee. They included Steve Stombres, Cantor's chief of staff; Tim Berry, McCarthy's chief of staff; Laena Fallon, Cantor's former communications director and Emily Murray, McCarthy's top health care aide. Kristi Way, a top Cantor staffer, was also on the trip. So, let me get this straight here. Can'tor is the "grown up" here, who (supposedly) chastised (tsk tsk, naughty naughty!) his inebriated, out-of-control colleagues about their inappropriate and disrespectful behavior the next morning, yet took absolutely ZERO - nada, zip, nil, zilch - action against three of his top aides - including his Chief of Staff - after learning of their involvement in the drunken, late-night swim at the $1,000-per-night hotel? I mean, have any of these Can'tor aides been fired, disciplined, or demoted? Anything whatsoever, other than the (supposed) chastisement by big bad Eric Can'tor the morning after?
By the way, can you imagine if a bunch of Obama staffers had done something like this, in Israel no less? I can just hear it now from Republicans like Can'tor, how disrespectful Obama was to Israel, how heads should roll, how this is a disgrace to our country, how we should apologize to the Israelis, etc. (after Obama apologized, of course Can'tor et al would slam him for going on an "apology tour" or whatever - yeah, they just say whatever, that's Republicans for you). So, what's it going to be Congressman? "A shande far di goyim" or what? |
