Sen. McEachin Calls for Virginia Investigation into Voter Registration Forms Trashing Case

From Sen. Donald McEachin (D-Richmond), with regard to this story.
Senator McEachin Calls on Attorney General to Investigate Discarded Voter Registration Forms

Henrico - Senator A. Donald McEachin (D-Henrico) today called on Attorney General Cuccinelli to conduct a thorough, open and transparent investigation into the recently discovered discarded voter registration forms found in a Rockingham County dumpster. Senator McEachin said, "This is simply too serious an issue. Voting is the bedrock of our democracy and we, as Virginians, deserve to know exactly what happened, how widespread the abuse and under whose orders, if any, the individual in question acted.

"Apparently, the suspect has or had ties to the National Republican Party. Was he perpetrating this under their orders? Is this the only time he has done this? And, how can we be sure that other individuals, also acting in response to Republican demands, have not done the very same action? Is this part of a pervasive pattern of trying to deprive Virginians of their constitutional rights? What other actions, if any, have been taken in pursuit of that egregious goal?

"We have heard a lot from Republicans both in the Virginia General Assembly and across the country about their numerous fears that voters were committing fraud. It certainly looks like, instead, the fraud is being committed by the Republicans on the voters.

"The only way we, as citizens of this Commonwealth, can feel confident that the voting system, and therefore, our democracy is sound, is for there to be a complete, honest, and total investigation into the allegations. This should be done by our Attorney General and his office as the lawyers for the Commonwealth. I call on Attorney General Cuccinelli to open the investigation immediately so that, by Election Day, Virginians can have total faith and confidence in the system as they go to the polls to cast their ballots," Senator McEachin concluded.

Fat chance (0.00 / 0)
For Cuccinelli, "investigation" means harassing climate scientists to please Big Coal fat cats and "law" means something you stretch to deny women their legal right to terminate a pregnancy.

If the man has a single non-partisan, justice-oriented bone in his body, he's never shown it.  And you can bet your mortgage that today, one month from the election in one of the most important swing states, he's not going to.  Guaranteed.

So far this story is all over the web, but Wash Post has nothing that I have seen. Of course we pretty much know that voter fraud is what republicans do and the media clowns owned by corporate interest may look the other way.

LA Times (0.00 / 0)
The story has made it to Los Angeles, but evidently not to the Worthless Post.

The Post now has a story and the perpetrator has been fired by the repugs. Guess he will have to take the rap by himself.

That looks like Bob Goodlatte in that pic with Cooch. Figures...

ok silly question... Who would investigate if the AG (0.00 / 0)
had to recluse himself?  Seriously - he is pictured with the defendant right here - this close - odds are they have met and the fact it is at a campaign office - they probably talked strategy...

SBE ignoring it (4.00 / 1)
Per the Post story, "Democrats immediately called on the office of Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli II to investigate the case, but the State Board of Elections has decided against asking Cuccinelli to do so, the Associated Press reported Friday evening. A board official told AP that the case appeared to be an isolated incident."

How the hell do you know if something is an isolated incident if you don't investigate it?  The Watergate burglary totally looked like an isolated incident...at first.

Tying Karl Roves Cross roads / Nathan Sprouls Strategic Alliance / Pin Point / to the RNC

Me thinks - Sproul and Rove are lovers... Sprouls outfit gets a prime contract with the RNC even after numerous years and multiple acts of voter disenfranchisement - just following the AZ Blog and Brad Blog....

Salon has a great piece - link back to Ben's blog..

Good one! Votergate! (0.00 / 0)
I love it.

It pains me to say this... (4.00 / 1)
... but Don McEachin is 100% correct on this one. I've never been as disappointed in the Republican Party of Virginia as I am right now.

Change (3.00 / 1)
The GOP won't change as long as people continue to vote for them, anyway. Our democratic process desperately needs a credible conservative political party. Instead, the GOP has morphed into something that uses fear, hate, and now fraud, to fight for control of the reins of government for the benefit of the wealthy few. The party needs an extreme makeover, and people like you can do the job...if you are willing to punish behavior like this the only way the extremists in your party will understand. Make them fail in their objective, which is to retain power. Get involved and vote them out.

Strong agree, but... (0.00 / 0)
...I don't have a political party. The RPV (and DPV) do not speak for me. I am independent. I refuse to vote for a candidate because of their political party affiliation. I will never go in lockstep with a political party and I am proud of that. When you have ridiculous rules that immediately eject people for supporting a non-party candidate, the entire party process saddens me. The RPV removed Bolling, Cuccinelli & Cantor for support Bill Janis.

I have to rely on both of those groups to police themselves and neither of them are doing it now.

Cooch will not investigate (0.00 / 0)
WashPost says Cooch will not investigate.  State Board of Elections -- dominated by Republicans -- says the local investigation is sufficient.

For what it's worth, Colin Small is only 23 years old, not 31 as originally reported.
