GOP Senator: Ban Unmarried Women, Gays From Teaching

For all the GOP’s talk of freedom and liberty and getting government out of our lives, their actual social agenda involves Big Brother deciding what your job can or can’t be. Take it away, Sen. Jim DeMint:

DeMint said if someone is openly homosexual, they shouldn’t be teaching in the classroom and he holds the same position on an unmarried woman who’s sleeping with her boyfriend – she shouldn’t be in the classroom.

The chauvinism at work here is really amazing. Unmarried female teachers would presumably be put under a new government-run Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell program monitoring their sex lives. However, unmarried male teachers would be free to hook up at will. Sen. Jim DeMint wants to write Mad Men social norms into government policy.

Really, I don’t know how women can vote Republican and sleep at night (which better be alone if they’re not married).
