I’m always sort of mystified when people who live in the Mid-Atlantic spend thousands of dollars to travel out of the region to go hiking, while remaining virtually ignorant that some of the best hikes in America sit right in our backyard.
Whether you want an easy trail to stretch your legs on a nice day or a memorable rock climb to a mountain summit, you can find it within a short drive here in Virginia. And considering today is National Trails Day, it’s a great excuse to get acquainted with options near you.
Over at TheGreenMiles.com, I've posted reviews of some of my favorite local hikes & trail walks:
- Old Rag Mountain (Madison County, VA)
- Catoctin Mountain (Frederick County, MD)
- Scott's Run Nature Preserve (Fairfax County, VA)
- Great Falls North (Fairfax County, VA)
