The Farm Team and the Women’s Campaign Forum each endorse Libby Garvey for Virginia Senate.
For immediate release
July 19, 2011, Alexandria, VA – Libby Garvey today announced that both The Farm Team and the Women’s Campaign Forum have officially endorsed her campaign for the 30th District Virginia Senate seat.
According to Farm Team Co-Founder Susan S. Platt, “Libby has the character, determination, experience and leadership skills to gain the Democratic nomination on August 23, and to win the Senate seat in the November election. She exemplifies The Farm Team mandate to elect Democratic women who will put forth common sense solutions, build cooperation and consensus, and help develop and promote the policies and programs that will benefit all citizens of the Commonwealth of Virginia. We are proud to endorse and support Libby Garvey.”
These endorsements come on the heels of last week’s public campaign finance reports that show Garvey out-raised both of her primary opponents in the 2nd Quarter. “I’m so grateful to have the solid support of my fellow Democratic women of Virginia,” Garvey said. “We’ve gained the momentum in this campaign, and the support of the Farm Team and the Women’s Campaign Forum is a real honor.”
Libby Garvey currently serves as a member of the Arlington County School Board, having just completed her 5th term as Chair. She has spent her life helping others, first as a waitress helping her mom make ends meet and later as a Peace Corps volunteer in Africa. Today, as a cancer survivor, grandmother, and widow, she’s still at it. While on the school board, Garvey helped successfully establish full-day Kindergarten, instituted nondiscrimination employment policies to protect the rights of gays and lesbians, and led a school-renovation program that has been on-time and on-budget. In the Senate, Garvey will stand up, speak out and fight back.
Garvey announced her intention to seek the Democratic nomination for the Virginia Senate’s 30th District following the announcement of Senator Patsy Ticer’s retirement. Garvey has been previously endorsed by Senator Patsy Ticer, Fairfax County Supervisor Gerry Hyland, and former Alexandria Vice-Mayor Andrew Macdonald, among others. The primary will take place on August 23rd.
