John Boehner: Lie, Distort, Lie, Distort, Lie, Distort…

How warped, out of touch with reality, and extreme are today’s Teapublicans?  Did you just watch John Boehner’s long litany of lies and distortions speech on the debt crisis? As one of Virginia’s top “influencers,” Mo Elleithee, explains, the speech can be summarized as “I tried working with POTUS, but Eric Cantor won’t let me do the right thing even though 2/3 of ppl disapprove of us.” (Mo also notes, correctly: “This Boehner speech is as disconnected from reality as the plan he put forward today.”)

Here are just a few of Boehner’s lies and distortions. Feel free to use this as a thread to discuss both President Obama’s superb speech, and John Boehner’s lies and distortions and ideological purity, masquerading as “leadership.”

*”…amazed at how different Washington DC operated than every business in America”

Uh John? You DO realize that the United States of America is not USA Inc., right? Last I checked, we’re a nation, and a great one at that. Which is not the same as the used car salesman, or whatever it is, you are.

*”…on the heels of the largest spending binge in American history” Uh John? You DO realize that that George W. Bush and the Republicans racked up $5 trillion in new policies, compared to just $1.4 trillion under Obama (and most of that to deal with the economic crisis Republican policies largely created)?

*”Last week, the House passed such a plan, and with bipartisan support. It’s called the ‘Cut, Cap, and Balance’ Act.” Uh John? You DO realize that so-called “Cut, Cap, and Balance” is none of the above? Instead, it would be an absolute disaster, one that  “takes our problem and makes it worse” (and, by the way, would have made “Ronald Reagan’s entire presidency…unconstitutional.”)

Anyway, those are just a few selected lies and distortions from the opening paragraphs of John Boehner’s speech.  There’s a great deal more, to the point where pretty much every word the guy utters is either wrong, distorted, fallacious, erroneous, drawn from a parallel universe, or just outright nuts.  Yes, THAT guy is the Speaker of the House, and THAT is the result of normal, sane people staying home in November 2010. Just remember that next time you’re thinking, “meh, voting doesn’t matter, I don’t think I’ll vote this election.”
