    Friends,

First post here on Blue Virginia, wanted to share with you an email sent to supporters from Vice Admiral (and former member of Congress) Joe Sestak to supporters on behalf of Brig General John Douglass (ret).  Look forward to working with you all in the coming months.

    ……

Joe Sestak here. I wanted to introduce you to my good friend John Douglass who is running for Congress.  Since I left office, I am frequently told by others that they wish there was still a senior military officer serving in Congress, because they know we are not afraid to fight.

I can tell you that when a retired flag officer speaks up, even as a rookie congressman, people listen.

That’s why I am writing to ask for your help today. September 30th marks a critical deadline and milestone for John’s campaign as he has to file his fundraising reports.  The pundits, the media and our Republican opponents will use September 30th as a measure of the strength of his campaign. That’s why I am working with him to help raise $10,000 more before the filing deadline September 30th.

Let’s show them all what John is made of, contribute $25, $50 or more today.

Before I was elected to Congress in 2006, I served 31 years in the U.S. Navy, rising to the rank of Vice Admiral and commanding an aircraft carrier battle group in the Middle East.   Likewise, John served 28 years in the U.S. Air Force, served in two different White Houses, and rose to the rank of Brigadier General.  It was not until John retired from the Air Force and was appointed Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Navy that our paths crossed.  I quickly learned that John’s reputation of being a “no nonsense”, “goal oriented”, and “get the job done” Assistant Secretary was well earned.

These days, it’s hard to imagine two cultures more different than Congress and the Armed Forces.  In the military, there’s a commitment to getting the job done, no matter how hard it is.  We may debate strategies and tactics, but we share the same values and are fighting toward a common mission.  And every person in the service is accountable to the men and women they serve beside, and to their commanding officer.

I don’t have to tell you: Congress is nothing like that.

And that’s why it’s so critical that we send John Douglass to Congress.  If even just one-tenth of his commitment to hard work, mission-driven focus, and accountability rubs off on his congressional colleagues, well, America will be better served.

Let’s show them all what John is made of, contribute $25, $50 or more today.

I have no doubt that General Douglass will also make his mark early and often, on behalf of the people of northern Virginia and the United States.

I hope you’ll join me in supporting John.   Contribute today.

    Joe Sestak

Former Member of Congress and Navy Admiral

p.s. The establishment folks in Washington aren’t quite sure what to make of folks like me and John. They know we won’t play their political games.  That’s why it’s critical that you support John right now with a donation.  It’s the grassroots that sent me to Congress, and it’s the grassroots that will win this fight for John Douglass.
