Leesburg – The Washington DC Building Trades Council is the latest organization representing working Virginians to add their name to the list of labor groups supporting State Senator Mark Herring (Loudoun and Fairfax) in the Democratic primary for Attorney General on June 11th.

The Washington DC Building Trades Council is comprised of the following organizations: Asbestos Workers Local #24, Boilermakers Local #193, Bricklayers & Allied Crafts Local #1, Electrical Workers Local #26, Elevator Constructors Local #10, Iron Workers Local #5, Operating Engineers Local #77, Operative Plasterers & Cement Masons #891, Painters District Council #51, Plumbers Local #5, Reinforced Rodmen Local #201, Roofers & Waterproofers Local #30, Sheet Metal Workers Local #100, Sprinkler Fitters Local #669, and Steamfitters Local #602.

The Building Trades Council joins the Virginia Education Association, Laborers’ Mid-Atlantic Region and Teamsters Joint Council 83. In total, these organizations represent over 80,000 working men and women.

“I am proud of my record in the State Senate of fighting on behalf of working people and am honored to have such strong support from the organizations that represent them. Their support and encouragement continues to provide a boost to my campaign,” Herring said “I have consistently voted to support hard working Virginians and pushed back against ideologically motivated attacks on workers. As Attorney General, I will fight to ensure workers’ rights are protected.”

These organizations praised Herring for his support for issues important to Virginia's workers:

Vance Ayres, Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the Washington DC Building Trades Council:

“Hard working Virginians deserve an Attorney General who will be on their side. We know Mark Herring will be that Attorney General because he has a record we can trust of standing up and speaking out on the issues important to Virginia workers and their families.”

Meg Gruber, President of the Virginia Education Association:

“Senator Herring has consistently fought to provide Virginia’s children with the best possible education. Virginia’s teachers, parents and students can count on Senator Herring to fight for them as Attorney General just as he has fought for them in the State Senate.”

Michael Brooks, Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Joint Council 83:

“I can think of no better candidate for Attorney General than Mark Herring. He has been a constant ally in our fight for workers’ rights in the Commonwealth of Virginia and I know he will continue to fight for the men and women of this state as Attorney General.”

Dan Lucas, Political Director of LiUNA Mid-Atlantic:

“In the Senate, Mark has a strong record of fighting for hard working Virginia families and we trust him to fight for all Virginians as our next Attorney General.”

Kendall Martin, Business Manager of Iron Workers Local #5:

“Senator Herring has been a true champion for working people in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Mark comes from a working background and I am confident he will continue to work hard for all residents and working folks of Virginia as our next Attorney General.”
