Saturday News: “Why We Are Protesting in Charlotte”; “More bigotry from the Trump brigade”

by Lowell

Here are a few national and Virginia news headlines, political and otherwise, for Saturday, September 24. Also check out President Obama’s weekly address, in which he commemorates the opening of the National Museum of African American History and Culture. I can’t wait to visit it!

  • BTW. what on earth is wrong with “super-cringy” Gary Johnson and his tongue???

    • True Blue

So Trump could shoot people in the middle of 5th Avenue and supporters will still vote for him, Johnson tongue talks mumbo-jumbo saying he will not lose supporters, but Hillary gets a cough and people question her capabilities?

      Doubling down on double standard(s).

      • But….but…but…Trump and Johnson are MEN, and Hillary is (wait for it!) a WOMAN! So there’s that. (snark)

        • True Blue

No one rises to low expectations. It’s as if Hillary is expected to beat the world record for pole vaulting, more than 20 feet, while these two are going to get accolades for simply walking under the pole.

        He was probably stoned.

  • Karen Tumulty set up “Hilary is the huge favorite” narrative for Debate #1

See anything wrong with this story?

Of course, Tumulty’s the same reporter who wrote this laughably biased (against Hillary Clinton) story a few weeks ago, so I guess we shoudn’t be surprised.

Bottom line: It is absolutely NOT the medias job to be spinning debate expectations in favor of Trump by setting the “bar” FAR higher for Clinton than for Trump. In fact, it’s the exact opposite of real journalism.

    Another important museum –

Rachel Maddow’s story last night highlighted the Trump campaign’s ‘authoritative tone’ about scheduling Trump’s hoped for photo-op on Tuesday, between mostly white rallies about black “third world” lives. They wanted to be seen in Greensboro at the International Civil Rights Center and Museum, built around the F.W. Woolworth lunch counter where four African-American men made famous the sit-in movement, but it didn’t go so well.

    Note to Trump –

“The International Civil Rights Center and Museum is a non-partisan, non-profit organization that is committed to advancing an enlightened understanding of civil and human rights.”

“Any reasonable observer can conclude – and many have – that Donald J. Trump is in comprehensive opposition to the values and the mission of the Civil Rights Museum. . .”

“As a practical matter as well, the museum is not in a position to suspend its operations to serve as a backdrop to legitimize Mr. Trump’s ideological positions.”

Cancelled visit; No comment from the Trump campaign.

  • Statement from CTR President Brad Woodhouse on Donald Trump’s Roanoke, Virginia Rally

Washington, D.C.–Tonight, Correct The Record President Brad Woodhouse released the following statement on Donald Trump’s rally in Roanoke, Virginia:

“In a fact-free rally tonight, Donald Trump previewed his debate strategy: compulsively lie. Trump is the ultimate con man, and tonight he once again tried to pull a fast one on Virginia voters. In a speech that felt like a pitch from a snake oil salesman, Trump laughably claimed to be a champion of communities of color, women and the ‘forgotten’ people of this country. The truth is that Trump has disparaged women and communities of color for years, and his tax proposals are a massive giveaway to the rich. Trump even repeated one of his favorite lies: that Mexico will pay for his border wall. With no facts or plans, Donald Trump has only one thing to offer the American people: falsehoods, whoppers and utter fictions.”
