In the aftermath of Saturday’s White Nationalist protests in Charlottesville, there was a large gathering last night at Lee Park. Hundreds of us joined together to say “We reject hate and divisiveness, and outsiders have no place telling us what we should do with our parks.” So many individuals, families, friends, and groups were part of this genuine expression of community, bringing candles and signs to show that Charlottesville is a place where we respect and protect one another, creating light that seeks to illuminate rather than fire meant to intimidate.
