NEW: Republican in Vulnerable GOP-Held District Calls Trump a “Positive Disruptor”

In an article published yesterday by Connection Newspapers, Lolita Mancheno-Smoak, the GOP’s nominee for the 42nd House District seat being vacated by retiring Republican Delegate Dave Albo, praised Donald Trump as a “positive disruptor.”

In a Tweet, Mancheno-Smoak previously referred to Trump as her “ideal presidential candidate,” although she later denied the existence of the Tweet in an appearance on the Kojo Nnamdi show.

The article also noted the clear contrast between Mancheno-Smoak and Democratic nominee Kathy Tran on the issues of health care, including women’s health. Mancheno-Smoak opposes Medicaid expansion and would vote to defund Planned Parenthood, whereas Tran’s biggest priority would be expanding access to affordable health care for the 400,000 Virginians who fall in the coverage gap.

“Lolita Mancheno-Smoak opposes expanding affordable health care to 400,000 people and would vote to defund Planned Parenthood,” said Virginia House Democratic Caucus spokeswoman Katie Baker. “It’s no surprise that she would call Donald Trump a ‘positive disruptor,’ as the most recent version of Trumpcare would disrupt access to affordable health care for 32 million people. For Kathy Tran, on the other hand, health care is a moral issue. We will continue our aggressive efforts to help her flip this seat in November.”
The 42nd is one of 17 Republican-held districts that Hillary Clinton won in November. Clinton won the district by twenty points.
