Emgage PAC endorses Abdul El-Sayed and Tim Kaine

[PRESS RELEASE] Washington, D.C. – Emgage PAC, the largest Muslim American federal PAC, is pleased to announce the endorsements of Abdul El-Sayed for Michigan’s race for governor and Tim Kaine for Virginia Senate. Both candidates are highly qualified and have shown their dedication to public service by fighting for minority and civil rights as well as opposing discriminatory legislation.

Dr. Abdul El-Sayed was born and raised in Michigan. He is a doctor, an educator, and a public servant who has dedicated his life to creating opportunities for all people. He most recently served as Detroit’s Executive Director and Health Officer, where he rebuilt the Health Department following it privatization during the city’s bankruptcy. As Health Director, Dr. El-Sayed worked to ensure government accountability, promote health and reduce cross-generational poverty.

As Senator, Tim Kaine has maintained his commitment towards public servitude, fighting against hateful policies and legislation. Shortly after President Trump’s discriminatory immigration ban targeting Muslim-majority countries, Senator Tim Kaine cosponsored a bill aimed at reversing this decision. In addition, the Senator has played a crucial role in uniting Virginians across old lines of party, religion, and race. He has consistently championed civil rights, introducing and sponsoring important legislation for the LGBTQ, women, and minority communities. He is seeking reelection this upcoming November.

Emgage PAC CEO Wa’el Alzayat said, Given the current political climate, it is imperative that our community supports candidates from all backgrounds who are committed to pushing back against the hateful rhetoric and bigotry that is plaguing our country. We have seen that kind of support from Tim Kaine (Senator of Virginia) and Abdul El-Sayed (Gubernatorial Candidate of Michigan). They have shown their commitment of uplifting communities and deserve our support.”
