From the Democratic Party of Virginia (DPVA):
CHAOS: Corey Stewart Seizes Control of VA GOP while Comstock, Brat, and Taylor Hide From Voters
The Republican Party of Virgnia has begun waging Corey Stewart’s “vicious” campaign while Republican Members of Congress refuse to answer whether they’ will campaign with their U.S. Senate nominee this fall.
RICHMOND, VA – Corey Stewart, a man who Republican Delegate Nick Freitas recently said engages in “dog-whistling of White supremacists, anti-Semites, and racists,” has officially taken the reigns of the Republican Party of Virginia (RPV). In a stream of Stewart-defending and provocative Twitter outbursts, the RPV has revealed to Virginia what it will look like under Corey Stewart’s leadership. While the RPV has made their fealty to Stewart public, Republican Representatives Barbara Comstock (VA-10), Dave Brat (VA-07), and Scott Taylor (VA-02) have all refused to tell their voters whether they will campaign with Stewart. Former Republican officials in Virginia far and wide have voiced their strong disappointment with the state GOP’s move to turn the party over to Corey Stewart, stating that: “It’s not just eccentric, it’s offensive,” said Shaun Kenney, a former RPV executive director who preceded the party’s current executive director, John Findlay. “In a previous era, had a member of RPV staff issued comments like that, I would have fired them on the spot.” But while Corey Stewart now runs the RPV, Republican Members of Congress Comstock, Brat, and Taylor again and again have refused to tell their constituents whether they stand with the white supremacist coddling Stewart. First, it was Barbara Comstock to dip and dodge the question. It is past time for Barbara Comstock, Dave Brat, and Scott Taylor be honest with their constituents and tell them whether or not they will endorse, will campaign with, or will vote for Corey Stewart for United States Senate. They cannot hide forever.” |
