Congressman Brat to Speak At Rally In Support of Judge Kavanaugh’s Nomination To Supreme Court, Despite Multiple Sexual Assault Allegations

Washington, DC—Congressman Dave Brat will be a featured speaker at the so-called “Rally for the Republic,” taking place on Wednesday, September 26 in support of Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court. Congressman Brat will be speaking in support of Judge Kavanaugh even though the judge has been credibly accused of two instances of sexual assault and will appear with Congressman Jim Jordan, who is charged with knowingly ignoring sexual abuse during his time at Ohio State University.

“Congressman Brat’s decision to speak out in favor of someone who is credibly accused of multiple sexual assaults tells us everything we need to know about him,” Anna Scholl, Executive Director of Progress Virginia, said. “Brat’s record of thumbing his nose at sexual assault survivors goes beyond his absurd advocacy for Brett Kavanaugh. Brat also voted for the American Health Care Act, which would have taken away health care protections for sexual assault survivors. Congressman Brat’s actions make it perfectly clear that he doesn’t care about women’s health and safety, and women will keep that in mind when they go to vote in the November election.”

In 2017, Congressman Brat voted for the American Health Care Act, the GOP “replacement” to the Affordable Care Act. If passed, that law would have made it more difficult for people who sought treatment for injuries incurred from a sexual assault to get health insurance coverage by classifying it as a pre-existing condition. In addition to voting for the AHCA, Congressman has voted numerous times to repeal the Affordable Care Act, which provides protections for people with pre-existing conditions and makes accessing birth control easier and more affordable.
