Virginia Republican Who Lost House of Delegates Special Election Nomination by One Vote: “I am neither encouraging nor discouraging write-in votes”

Haha, gotta love this from the Republican (Jimmy Ayers) who lost the HD-24 Republican nomination by one vote a few weeks ago. How about everyone just vote for Democrat Christian Worth instead on December 18? 🙂

To my friends and supporters in the Virginia 24th District.

Ladies and Gentlemen:

In the past few days some of my recent campaign workers and I have received messages and phone calls and there have been postings circulated on social media suggesting that I am running a write-in campaign for the December 18 Special Election for Delegate of the 24th District. The origin of this concept is unknown and it warms my heart to know that folks have devotion and confidence in my abilities and many have expressed a desire to help with such a campaign.

However, I feel it is important to state my position that personally I am neither encouraging nor discouraging write-in votes for I believe that people have a right to vote for whomever they feel is best qualified.

In order to address the current speculation and offers of assistance, it is important to clarify that I do not have plans to actively organize and run a formal write-in campaign for the December 18 Special Election.

This Special Election is to fill a one-year vacancy in the VA House of Representatives created by the successful election of Ben Cline to the US Congress. What this means is that in 2019 there will be a formal primary which will be administered by the State Electoral Board to determine who the Republican and Democrat candidates will be on the November 2019 ballot.

At this time, I don’t know what the future may hold.

Respectfully,

Jimmy Ayers
