And here’s the pitch:
Just as we spend a lot of money every year to repair our roads and bridges, so we also need to invest in maintaining the climate. For the climate is an even more basic part of the infrastructure of our lives than the Interstate Highway System.
I’m wondering whether pitching the necessary response to the challenge of climate change as a form of “investing in our infrastructure” might be a way to get more Americans to get on board with our taking responsible action on this most vital issue facing civilization?
After all, failure to maintain our climate’s stability will mean more coastal cities under water, more neighborhoods consumed by wildfires, more hurricane-driven storm surges sweeping away homes, bridges, roads….
