Gerry Connolly (D-VA11) questioning Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on the murder of Jamal Khashoggi, who Connolly refers to as “my constituent,” “mild mannered, soft spoken, and a moderate critic of the kingdom [who] wanted to see modernization…reforms.” Rep. Connolly points out that Pompeo met just 14 days after the murder with the Crown Prince, “who many believe orchestrated and ordered the murder of Mr. Khashoggi, my constituent.” Rep. Connolly asks, “at what point do Americans…insist that the inalienable rights enumerated in our Declaration of Independence…when do they trump diplomatic niceties?” Great question. Connolly also asks why the Saudis haven’t been held to account and whether Pompeo discussed the murder with the Crown Prince. In response, Pompeo basically spews out a bunch of b.s. and weasel words. Sadly, not surprising from this administration, which apparently has never met a dictatorial thug it didn’t embrace.
