Excellent event tonight at the Clarendon Ballroom in Arlington (see video, below), at a crucial time for women’s reproductive freedom in America. As NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia Executive Director Tarina Keene talked about, right now abortion rights in America are under serious threat, but there’s also hope, particularly on the political front, given that the vast majority (70%+) of Americans supports a woman’s right to choose. Which is why, according to Keene, that 70%+ needs to fight back at the ballot box this November and in Novembers to come…because women’s lives are on the line.

Also check out Virginia House Democratic Leader Eileen Filler-Corn’s presentation of an award for defending choice to Del. Kathy Tran. According to Del. Filler-Corn, Del. Tran has shown “such incredible courage and resilience” in standing up to the “coordinated attack on her” by anti-abortion legislators…as well as to the “misinformation,” “lies,” and “threats that were made and leveled against her, her family and staff.”

For her part, Del. Tran declared that we’re seeing a “coordinated attack across the country to stop women from having bodily autonomy,” but that “we’re not going to let that happen.” She declared that we need to “make sure…we take the majority this November and can codify Roe v Wade.” She added, “our voices are united, they are strong, they are loud, they are fierce, and we are on the right side of history and the right side of justice fighting for women.”

Also check out the other speeches, including by State Sen. Dick Saslaw and State Sen. Jennifer Boysko. And make sure you vote Democratic and pro-choice this November, up and down the ballot!
