Fairfax County Democratic School Board Candidate Calls Republican Candidate’s Interview “Extremely Scary”

Among other things, the Republican says she doesn't "think that we need blanket equity for everybody"

See below and to the far right (appropriately enough) for yet another reason why Fairfax County Democrats need to turn out in droves at polling places this November.

In this case, as Democratic-endorsed Fairfax County School Board (Sully magisterial district) candidate Stella Pekarsky writes, an interview with one of the Republicans’ at-large School Board candidates, Priscilla Destefano, is “extremely scary,” demonstrating among other things that “she doesn’t understand what equity is and…doesn’t have a clue about the research on effective homework policies.”

A few more “highlights” from DeStefano’s interview include:

  • She says the word “equity” is “a big buzzword this election season and I would argue it’s the opposite,” that she doesn’t “think that we need blanket equity for everybody,” and that she “really [doesn’t] like that term, ‘equity for everyone’,” that it’s part of “political agendas.”
  • She agrees with the person interviewing her, a Fairfax GOP Vice Chair, that equity is “sinister or devious,” not “correct,” and that “when you paint everyone as, you know, equity for everyone, you know, you’re putting them into a bucket that they might not belong.” Huh

Sadly, DeStefano fits in very well with the Republican Extremists Running for Fairfax County Public School Board. Again, just make sure to vote this November if you’re a Fairfax Democrat…
