Maps: Where 2020 Democratic Presidential Candidates Are Raising Their Money in Virginia

Over at VPAP, they’ve got tons of detail about where 2020 Democratic presidential candidates are raising their money in Virginia. Here are the maps for the leading contenders, and a few top lines.

• To compare with the Democrats, note that Trump has raised $1,570,007 from Virginia so far [note: as a commenter correctly points out, Trump’s been raising money for his reelection basically since his inauguration, so he has a HUGE head start], including around half from Northern Virginia (inside and outside the Beltway), $161k from the Capital Region and $145k from South Hampton Roads.
• Northern Virginia dominates in terms of donations to 2020 Democratic presidential contenders.
• For instance, Joe Biden has received a total of $279,797 from Virginia so far, of which $127k comes from “Inside the Beltway” and $84k from “Northern Virginia” outside the Beltway. In stark contrast, Biden raised only $2,813 from the entire Shenandoah region, and just $2,800 from Southside Virginia.

• Bernie Sanders has raised $171,407 from Virginia so far, of which $61k is from Northern Virginia outside the Beltway and $33k from “Inside the Beltway.” Sanders also raised $16k from the “Capital Region” and $15k from “South Hampton Roads.”

• Elizabeth Warren has raised $179,753 from Virginia so far, of which $58k is from Northern Virginia outside the Beltway, $56k is from “Inside the Beltway,” and $22k from the Piedmont region.

• Kamala Harris has raised $179,842 from Virginia so far, including $89k from “Inside the Beltway,” $57k from Northern Virginia outside the Beltway, $10k from the Capital Region and $10k from the Piedmont region.

• Pete Buttigieg has raised $483,180 from Virginia so far, including a whopping $236k from “Inside the Beltway” and $121k from Northern Virginia outside the Beltway. Add in $61k from the Piedmont region (a good chunk of which comes from the Charlottesville area), $19k from South Hampton Roads, $16k from the Capital Region, and (surprisingly) $11k from the Coalfields/Southwest Virginia, and that’s most of Buttigieg’s Virginia money.

• Cory Booker has raised a relatively small amount — just $85,151 — from Virginia so far, and it almost all comes from Inside the Beltway ($42k) and Northern Virginia outside the Beltway ($34k).

• Andrew Yang has raised just $35,665 from Virginia so far, most of which has come from Northern Virginia.

• Beto O’Rourke has raised $102,588 from Virginia so far, including $45k from Northern Virginia outside the Beltway, $22k from Inside the Beltway, $21k from the Piedmont region, and $7k from South Hampton Roads.

• Amy Klobuchar has raised $90,374 from Virginia so far, including $41k from Inside the Beltway, $28k from Northern Virginia outside the Beltway, $7k from South Hampton Roads and $6k from the Piedmont region.
