Virginia Unemployment Numbers Still Dismal Amid Trump’s Failed Pandemic Response
State-specific unemployment numbers were released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics this morning. Virginia’s unemployment rate sat at 8.4% in June, 3 times higher than it was in June 2019.
“Under Democratic leadership, our Commonwealth has consistently tackled unemployment and put more Virginians to work. But today’s job numbers make it clear: President Trump’s disastrous handling of the COVID crisis is taking a toll on our economy.
We need a president who will take this crisis seriously, listen to the science, and create jobs rebuilding our economy: that person is Joe Biden. He will build our economy back and better—ensuring the future is made in America, creating jobs building a clean energy future, mobilizing a caregiving and education workforce to ease the burden of care for working parents, and advancing racial equality in America.” said DPVA Chair Susan Swecker.
