BREAKING: Virginia Senate Committee Votes 12-3 to Kill Mandatory Pandemic Paid Sick Leave

0

I wasn’t watching the Senate Commerce & Labor committee meeting on this, but see below for the latest news on the 12-3 vote (see below) a few minutes ago to “pass by indefinitely” (aka, kill) Sen. Barbara Favola (D-Arlington/Fairfax/Loudoun)’s mandatory paid sick leave bill, SB5076. Why was this vote so lopsided against mandatory paid sick leave? Presumably, many employers are operating in the red already, not sure if they can stay afloat, and believe they can’t afford to pay employees to stay home. Meanwhile, many workers are hurting big time, struggling to pay their bills, and can’t afford to take unpaid time off if they get sick. So…a bad situation all around. Basically, we need a massive federal aid package, ASAP, but Mitch McConnell, Donald Trump et al are making sure *that* doesn’t happen. Time to vote for a change on 11/3…

P.S. As Del. Marcus Simon (D) points out, below, paid sick leave is still alive as part of the House Democrats’ legislative package. So it ain’t over yet…
