See below for graphics of the newly posted COVID-19 numbers by the Virginia Department of Health and the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association. So, at this point (9/22), in Virginia we’re at 142,010 total reported – confirmed plus probable – cases (note that actual cases, as well as deaths, could be higher, maybe even a LOT higher, based on stories like this one in the NY Times), 10,675 hospitalizations and 3,060 deaths from COVID-19. The number of reported cases went up 872 (+0.6%) in the latest statistics, which is a faster rate of increase than the day before, when reported cases were up 627 (+0.4%). The number of TOTAL test results was 2,054,035 (up 13,578 from yesterday), which is well below what we need, according to researchers at Harvard that would be 22,422/day for mitigation, 81,741/day for suppression). As for hospitalizations, they went up 62 (+0.6%), which is a faster rate of increase than the day before, when hospitalizations were up 22 (+0.2%), and one of the slowest rates of growth so far during the pandemic. Deaths are reported +39, compared to +6 the previous day
