Prince William County School Board Votes Unanimously In Support of Improving Diversity of “TJ” Admissions, Establishing Regional Governing Board

0

Last night, the Prince William County School Board voted unanimously as follows:

  • “recommends and requests that the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology be governed by a regional board with all participating jurisdictions having a seat on such board“;
  • “That this School Board strongly supports efforts to improve the Thomas Jefferson High School admissions process to improve diversity of underrepresented minorities and economically disadvantage students
  • “That the Prince William County School Board hereby directs our staff and superintendent to work closely with the staff and superintendent of the Fairfax County School Board on any such reforms to the admissions process and related changes to the current agreement between all participating school boards.

These recommendations were sent to the Fairfax County School Board, which I hear might vote this afternoon on the regional board creation.

P.S. Compare and contrast the Prince William County School Board letter to one from the Loudoun County School Board on September 26. For VA Secretary of Education Atif Qarni’s thoughts on this overall topic, see here.
