From the Democratic Party of Virginia:
OUT OF TOUCH: Freitas opposes second round of stimulus checks to Virginians amid once-in-a-generation economic crisis
Richmond, VA — Delegate Nick Freitas keeps finding ways to remind Virginia voters that he is more in touch with his special interest friends than the needs of Central Virginia families.
During a contentious Facebook Live Q&A hosted by CBS6 recently, Freitas not only reiterated his commitment to dismantling our nation’s healthcare system and stripping away protections for those with pre-existing conditions, he spoke out against delivering another round of financial assistance to the American people, something even President Trump supports.
Freitas then portrayed Virginians as suckers for accepting stimulus checks, claiming their votes could be bought if they received more economic aid.
CBS6: What about giving direct checks to people like the $1,200 stimulus checks we saw the first time around?
Freitas: “Again I think, to some degree, that’s problematic. I mean, it’s one thing if you’re going to do it, initially, as something of a stop gap, maybe. But the idea that we’re now putting this back forward is that this is a long term strategy, as if the government could just continue to borrow money, and then hand it out to people? I’m sorry, that’s not a long term strategy. One of the reasons why we have a tremendous debt and deficit spending that we do right now is because politicians have attempted to try to buy people’s votes by spending more money.”
“It must be nice for Nick Freitas to have billionaire friends who can bail him out of his jams, but Virginia families don’t have that luxury. They need real relief, and both Republicans and Democrats, including President Trump, are backing more stimulus money. But Freitas has no grasp of the major challenges Americans are facing, and once again is willing to leave working families and small businesses out to dry so he can stick to his extreme right-wing arguments,” said Grant Fox, DPVA Communications Director.
