Qasim Rashid’s Election Night Remarks

STAFFORD, VA – Below is a transcript of Qasim Rashid’s election night remarks. A video of these remarks are available on Facebook here.
Good evening. I want to thank you guys all for tuning in and wanted to give you guys an update. We’re aware that certain outlets have made certain predictions on the race. Where we are at this point is waiting for final results to come in.
Over 286,000 early votes haven’t been tabulated or counted yet, and we believe that every vote should be heard for us to have a clear and accurate picture of what’s going on. And we’ll be provided those updates as they’re coming in, as they’re being made available to us. Look, we’re living at a special point right now. We’ve run a historic race with tens of thousands of contributors, with thousands of volunteers and supporters from all over the country. We’ve changed politics for good. We’ve run a campaign built on justice, built on compassion, on tying folks together.
We didn’t take any corporate PAC money and still out-fundraised our opponent. We stuck to the science in stopping COVID-19, and we still run on these principles that healthcare is a human right. We deserve a living wage and we need to push forward a bold climate agenda that protects our environment and our economy with a Green New Deal. We want to absolutely thank the countless volunteers, the supporters, the donors, the staffers that have made this campaign extraordinarily successful and have helped us achieve what very few people thought was possible.
Muhammad Ali once said that “Service to others is a rent you pay for your room here on earth.” And that’s what this campaign is about. It’s serving humanity. This is the primary function of why we exist. This is why this nation exists, to fight for equal justice for all, and help us form a more perfect union.
And as we now count down these votes, we want to make sure that we remember once more the importance of voting rights, the importance of advancing and expanding voting access for every single American in this country. Voting rights have been under assault, unfortunately, and our focus has always been to expand voting rights, expand access, and that includes things like broadband and healthcare, and certainly making sure we’re protecting our environment, serving our veterans, and ensuring that our armed forces have the support that they need.
So thank you to all those that have been absolutely critical to the success of this campaign. We look forward to the full count, especially of the 286,000 early votes that have not yet been counted. And we’ll provide those updates as soon as we have them.
