UPDATED: Former Del. Winsome Sears is the 2021 VA GOP Lt. Governor nominee, defeating former Del. Tim Hugo in the final round of Ranked Choice Voting earlier this evening.

After narrowly averting disaster Sunday night, when they almost nominated an Amanda Chase-style conspiracy theorist (Chuck Smith) for Attorney General, Virginia Republicans yesterday nominated Ted Cruz-endorsed Glenn Youngkin for governor. For results, see VPAP and also the Virginia GOP’s Google spreadsheet of results. Now, the VA GOP(Q) moves on to their Lt. Governor nominee, choosing among six candidates (Del. Glenn Davis, former Del. Tim Hugo, former Del. Winsome Sears, Lance Allen, Puneet Ahluwalia, Maeve Rigler). This one will probably come down to a three-way race, which could be close, between Davis, Hugo and Sears, but we’ll see soon enough, as counting begins at 9 am.
