From the McAuliffe for Governor campaign:
Terry McAuliffe Continues To Grow Grassroots Strength – Raises $1.5+ Million From Over 35,000 Online Donations In August
Grassroots Support Pours In As Terry Calls for Vaccine Requirements and Commonsense COVID Safety Measures Glenn Youngkin Opposes
MCLEAN, VA – As Terry for Virginia continues to exponentially grow its grassroots strength, the campaign announced today it raised more than $1.5 million exclusively from online donations from over 35,000 individual grassroots contributions in the month of August. These tens of thousands of grassroots donations poured in while Terry continued to show leadership in calling on Virginia employers – including health care systems and school districts – to require COVID-19 vaccines for employees. This unparalleled grassroots strength stands in stark contrast to Trump-endorsed Glenn Youngkin’s promise to spend $75 million of his own money to buy the governor’s office and his opposition to commonsense COVID safety measures that would keep Virginians safe and the economy strong.
“Terry for Virginia is continuing to build the largest grassroots fundraising army in Virginia history. While Glenn Youngkin continues to refuse to lead on vaccines and COVID safety, Terry McAuliffe is receiving overwhelming support for his leadership and vision to move Virignian forward,” said Terry for Virginia Spokesperson Renzo Olivari. “These thousands of small dollar donors share Terry’s vision to secure Virginia’s recovery from COVID-19, keep our schools open and children safe, and keep Virginia’s economy strong.”
In recent weeks, Terry has been the clear leader in this race on the issue of COVID-19 safety and recovery. In addition to requiring his campaign staff to be fully vaccinated, Terry has also called on all Virginia employers to require vaccines for their employees in order to keep Virginians safe and the economy strong. Glenn Youngkin continues to pander to his far-right base by opposing vaccine requirements, even as a majority of Virginians support COVID safety measures. Youngkin has encouraged college students to fill out “exception” forms for vaccine requirements for non-medical, non-religious reasons. He has even said he would model his governorship off of fellow Trump-ally Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, whose failed leadership on COVID has led to soaring case counts, overflowing ICUs, closed schools and thousands of quarantined students.
Terry has released 18 detailed plans to strengthen Virginia’s education system and dramatically increase teacher pay, help secure Virginia’s economic recovery from COVID-19, reform our criminal justice system, ensure Virginians have access to regular nutritious meals, address the broken, predatory system of prescription drug pricing, confront the gun violence epidemic, make Virginia the best state in the nation for Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Health Care (STEM-H) and computer science education, tackle the housing crisis in the Commonwealth and invest in Virginia’s workforce in the post-COVID economy, ensure Virginians have access to high-quality, affordable health care, tackle climate change and secure Virginia’s clean energy future by 2035, lift up Black Virginians as the Commonwealth rebuilds from the COVID-19 pandemic, further advance LGBTQ+ rights, create a flourishing rural economy, support entrepreneurial ecosystems, tackle rising costs and meet the health care needs, make higher education more affordable and boost Virginia’s agriculture and forestry industries.
