House Democratic Caucus Stands Behind Virginia Speaker Amid Report of Potential Violence
RICHMOND, Va.—Today, the Associated Press (AP) reported that Federal prosecutors recommended 25-year prison sentences for neo-Nazis who discussed attacking Virginia Speaker Eileen Filler-Corn ahead of the lobby-day gun rally on Monday, January 20, 2020.
House Democratic Majority Leader Charniele Herring and House Democratic Caucus Chair Rip Sullivan released the following statement in response:
“Today’s news about potential violence against Speaker Filler-Corn is shocking and upsetting. The Speaker has been a transformative leader for the Commonwealth. As the first Jewish and first woman Speaker of the House, she has served as an inspiration, especially as she has overseen historic change in Virginia.
“The House Democratic Caucus stands behind her and will not be intimidated.”
