Virginia Legislative Black Caucus Executive Director Adele McClure Announces Historic Candidacy for House of Delegates 2nd District

ARLINGTON—Today, Executive Director of the Virginia Legislative Black Caucus (VLBC) Adele McClure announced her historic candidacy for the Virginia House of Delegates. Seeking election in the newly drawn 2nd legislative district, McClure’s victory would be the first time a Black person and an Asian person represented Arlington in the Virginia House of Delegates.

A daughter of Northern Virginia and proud Arlingtonian, McClure’s experience with the VLBC and other advocacy groups—including the Arlington Continuum of Care, the Arlington Community Services Board, the Arlington NAACP, and the Arlington Alliance for Housing Solutions—have given her a deep perspective of the issues affecting Arlington residents. “My entire career has been committed to helping others and giving agency to those whose voices have been historically tuned out of the discussion,” said McClure. “Having advocated for these communities for years, I am ready to bring my lived and policy experiences to Richmond on behalf of the 2nd district in Arlington. I will be honored to represent Arlington in the House of Delegates.”

McClure’s candidacy has already garnered widespread attention and support throughout Arlington and the General Assembly, including the endorsement of 23 elected officials and local leaders.

Arlington County Democratic Committee Immediate Past Chair Jill Caiazzo voiced her support of McClure’s candidacy. “I’d say that Adele is ‘one to watch,’ but that just won’t cut it in this case. If you’re only watching Adele from the sidelines, you’re missing out on the opportunity to engage with a truly transcendent leader,” said Caiazzo. “I’ve personally worked with Adele over the past several years in both Arlington and Richmond. She is brave and true, thoughtful and kind. She will bring perspective and practicality to the General Assembly, and she will get things done. No drama, just a damn good person who is the real deal for Arlington. I rarely endorse, but I’m off the sidelines and all in for Adele.”

VLBC Chair Delegate Lamont Bagby shared his support for McClure shortly ahead of her announcement: “Adele is uniquely qualified to be an incredibly effective legislator,” said Chairman Bagby. “I’ve had the honor of working with Adele in her role as Executive Director of the VLBC. Her transformative leadership, policy and lived expertise, resilience, and courage would make her the perfect representative for the people of the 2nd district. With her extensive background in housing advocacy, I know she is the right leader to ensure safe, accessible, and affordable housing for Arlington residents. Arlington has a chance to make history by electing Adele to serve and I am proud to endorse her for Delegate!”
