Video: “CNN Medical Analyst @JReinerMD says Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin’s move allowing parents to opt out of the state’s school mask mandate is premature”

"When we drop masking, we're telling the most vulnerable in our population sort of that you're on your own"

See below for video of Dr. Jonathan Reiner (“board-certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, and interventional cardiology…professor with The George Washington School of Medicine & Health Sciences and the director of Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories”) talking to Jake Tapper about whether what Gov. Glenn Youngkin did today (signing SB739 into law) was the right move. The short answer by Dr. Reiner? No, it absolutely was *not* the right move.

Jake Tapper: “Just across the river in Virginia, Gov. Glenn Youngkin has signed this legislation allowing parents to have the decision whether or not their kids are masked. What do you think, was that the right move?”

Dr. Reiner: “No. First of all, the majority of kids in a lot of places remain unvaccinated, and the unvaccinated in our population now are still really vulnerable to a virus that’s still around in great numbers…Also, when we drop masking, we’re telling the most vulnerable in our population sort of that you’re on your own…When Youngkin drops mask mandates or allows parents to opt out of mask mandates in Virginia, what he’s telling the parent of a child with either severe asthma or brittle diabetes or a kid who’s recovering from leukemia that they’re on their own.”
