Youngkin Administration Under Fire For Repeated Issues with Voter Registrations

FAIRFAX COUNTY – Over the weekend, the Virginia Department of Elections (ELECT) disclosed to local Registrars across the Commonwealth that they found an additional 149,000 unprocessed voter registrations from the Summer, including 11,000 in Fairfax County. This scandal is the second time in a month that the Youngkin Administration has sprung a last-minute deluge of voter registrations on localities, as Registrars across the Commonwealth prepare for next week’s elections.

“Here we are again,” exclaimed Fairfax County Democratic Committee Chair Bryan Graham. “The flailing Youngkin Administration has once again proven that they either don’t know what they’re doing or are willfully neglecting their duties to the people of the Commonwealth.” In early October, the Fairfax County Office of Elections processed almost 12,000 voter registrations in less than a week. “We are confident that our Fairfax County Registrar can handle the task,” said Chair Graham, “but I worry that we don’t know if this is the end of ELECT’s malfeasance.”

“I am urging all voters to confirm their registration as soon as possible by going to FairfaxVotes.org/Register,” implored Chair Graham. “If your registration is not current, you can register on-site at any early voting location or your polling place on Election Day under Virginia’s new same-day registration law, and vote a provisional ballot. Although an unnecessary hurdle for voters, it is a failsafe for situations in which our absentee Governor forgets to do his job before heading off on another presidential aspiration bender.”

Same-day voter registration is possible thanks to Democrats in the General Assembly and former Governor Ralph Northam. Republicans opposed this legislation and are unlikely to be grateful for it saving them from the potential legal repurcussions of these repeated issues of voter disenfranchisement. This current voter registration scandal follows last week’s mailer to over 40,000 voters in towns in Fairfax and Prince William Counties instructing them that their Election Day polling location is incorrectly in the City of Fairfax, an entirely separate jurisdiction.
