One day after Vice Chair of the Virginia Legislative Black Caucus, Del. Lamont Bagby, announced that he was dropping out of the VA04 Democratic nomination contest and endorsing State Sen. Jennifer McClellan, he joined several others – Del. Delores McQuinn (D-Richmond), Mayor Levar Stoney, Henrico County Supervisor Tyrone Nelson, Henrico County School Board Chair Roscoe Cooper – speaking in support of Sen. McClellan’s candidacy.
The “firehouse primary” for the Democratic nomination is this coming Tuesday (the special election was set by Gov. Youngkin for 2/21/23, and the nomination had to be decided within a week due to early voting requirements, etc.), and McClellan’s main opponent is scandal-ridden State Sen. Joe Morrissey. So obviously, the choice here is clear, both because Sen. McClellan will make a SUPERB Congresswoman (and the first African-American woman ever elected to Congress from Virginia!), as well as because she’d be INFINITELY better than Sen. Morrissey. So…go Sen. McClellan!
