See below for a press release from Sandy Anderson, a Democrat running for Fairfax County School Board from the Springfield magisterial district. Anderson is endorsed by Fairfax County School Board member Laura Jane Cohen, who has represented the Springfield district since her election in 2019, when she defeated right-wing-Republican Elizabeth Schultz (now in the Youngkin administration, despite – or because of? – being a bigot, crackpot, extremist, etc.) 50.5%-41.9%. Of course, the fact that Schultz ever was elected from this district shows that it’s not safely “blue,” so we should definitely not take this November’s election for granted!

Anderson To Run for Fairfax County School Board in Springfield District

School Board Candidate Says She Is Excited to Get the Chance to Serve her Hometown

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA – Today, Sandy Anderson of the Springfield District announced that she is running for Fairfax County School Board, saying, “I’m excited to run for the Fairfax County School Board. My experience as an FCPS student, current FCPS mom, PTO leader, military spouse, and a higher-ed educator make me uniquely qualified to represent and serve the families of the Springfield District.” Anderson is the only Democrat in the race.

In making her announcement, Anderson said, “My experience lends itself to this work. This is my hometown, and I am ready to serve.”

For the last seven years, Anderson has served on the board of her local Parent Teacher Organization, with five years as its President. This is one piece of her varied leadership experience that will serve her well on the school board. A Fairfax County native and mom of two, Anderson also has extensive experience teaching composition and technical writing at the college level and currently works for two Department of Defense youth programs.

Anderson said “I know I have big shoes to fill in the seat being vacated by Laura Jane Cohen, who is running for the House of Delegates in the new 15th district. I’m excited to work with Laura Jane in this new capacity and am so grateful to have her endorsement and full support on this journey.”
