Team Salim Releases Ad on Chap’s Guns Voting Record
April 12, 2023
FALLS CHURCH, VA — In the wake of recent mass shootings in states like those in Tennessee and Kentucky, the Saddam Salim campaign for State Senate in the 37th district released a social media ad today that tackles incumbent Chap Petersen’s record on guns.
The ad takes issue with Chap’s past history of opposing common sense gun violence prevention measures like voting against an assault weapons ban, loosening requirements for concealed carry, and voting to allow concealed guns in places that serve alcohol.
“Politicians like Chap have failed us,” the ad indicates, “and we keep having mass shooting after mass shooting after mass shooting. We deserve better. We deserve a senator who will fight for us – not the gun lobby.”
At the same time the ad was released, the campaign also pointed to a new section on Salim’s website highlighting his proposed gun violence prevention platform. The campaign plans to roll out new ads like these exploring Chap Petersen’s record and proposing an alternative to voters for the 37th district.
“I want to make sure voters feel like they have a real alternative to the policies of the past,” Salim commented, “and that they know that I stand with them in wanting real change in the Commonwealth. We can’t afford to look backwards, we need to act now. We need gun violence prevention, reproductive rights, protections for our LGBTQIA+ Virginians, and politicians who put people’s needs before their own profit.”
