The WaPo’s Infatuation with Glenn Youngkin Continues. Now, They’re Reporting on a Presidential Campaign “Draft” Movement – and an Upcoming “Red Vest Retreat” (LOL!) for Glenn Youngkin

See here for the latest in the ongoing saga of the Washington Post’s infatuation with its “6 foot 5 inch mystery date,” namely Glenn Youngkin, and its burning desire to see Youngkin run for president. As you read this (as Dan Froomkin calls it, “an ‘opinion’ piece by a CBS correspondent that seriously advances a presidential run”) keep in mind that Jeff Bezos’ Washington Post worked overtime in 2021 to help whitewash Youngkin as some sort of “moderate,” which he obviously isn’t (to the contrary, he’s shown himself to be pretty far right wing, including the extremist candidates he campaigned for in 2022, like Kari Lake, Tudor Dixon, Yesli Vega, Paul LePage, etc.), and continued that into 2022 and 2023 with atrociously bad excuses for journalism such as this crap and this embarrassing tongue bath (“Youngkin hits Nebraska like a GOP star, but some want him to take it slow”). Anyway, so now the WaPo/CBS News is reporting:

• “Some top GOP donors and anti-Trump Republicans are ramping up efforts behind the scenes to draft Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin to jump into the 2024 GOP race. Donors are gathering in Virginia Beach Oct. 17-18, where some will push Youngkin to consider it”
• “The thirsting for Youngkin is not a well-orchestrated power play. It is the latest slapdash scheme in a long search for a standard-bearer and a portrait of the powerlessness so many Republicans feel as Trump plows ahead and the debates have so far failed to forge a breakout star.”
• “‘If somebody wants to come in, great,’ Romney told me, but he said any addition to the race would risk being meaningless if the Republican field remains crowded and the non-Trump vote is split. ‘I don’t really know Governor Youngkin. I’ve heard him give one speech to our caucus.'”

Remember, Youngkin is one of the least popular Virginia governors in decades (ever?), with yesterday’s University of Mary Washington poll estimating his approval at just 40%-37%, which is…not good. Yet some Republicans are SO desperate to find someone who can save them from a possibly crushing loss in November 2024 if Donald Trump is the Republican presidential nominee, as now seems highly likely, they’re flailing around, with Gov. Red Vest their latest infatuation (given that Youngkin’s role-model governor, Ron DeSantis, has been completely floundering in his attempt to dethrone the treasonous MAGA king). So here we are, with – I’m not making this up, LOL! – a “Red Vest Retreat” on October 17-18 in Virginia Beach, at which a bunch of wealthy Republican plutocrats will, apparently, BEG Youngkin to please, pretty please, we’ll throw $$$ at you if you do, run for president!!! PLEASE!!!

Pathetic.
