From the Joel Griffin for VA Senate campaign:
In Response to Spotsylvania County Banning Books About Slavery, Joel Griffin Releases Television Advertisement Entitled “Libraries”
Fredericksburg, VA – Today, news broke about the Spotsylvania School Board voted to ban 23 more books from libraries, some of which are about slavery. See below for the headline from the Free Lance Star.
In response, the Joel Griffin Campaign announced their third television advertisement of the cycle, “Libraries.”
Because his parents couldn’t afford childcare, Joel Griffin spent many evenings growing up at the public library reading. He understands how critical libraries are for kids in our community. They are a home for many kids, as they were for Joel.
Tara Durant not only voted for a bill that prompted local officials to ban books, but has also stood idly by as libraries in Spotsylvania have been underfunded. Joel Griffin is the only candidate who will fight to support libraries and end book bans.
The advertisement is below, and will air on TV and Digital.
Below is a Transcript of the Advertisement:
JOEL: Growing up poor, nothing was easy.
The library was my escape. And in these pages, I found a way out.
I’m Joel Griffin. I’ve served as a Marine, opened small businesses and restaurants, and I’m stepping up to serve you again.
So no politician can stop our kids from learning.
I’ll fight anyone banning books and keep politics out of our schools.
Because the next generation of entrepreneurs, leaders, and even Marines are going to need these books too.
