See below for vidoe of today’s great “Power Lunch” – the annual Virginia Grassroots Coalition’s Priority Legislation Press Conference,” featuring:

  • “The CLIMATE AND CLEAN ENERGY WORKING GROUP, represented by Sharon Shutler, presented their priority bills. She was joined by DELEGATE RIP SULLIVAN who is the patron of multiple bills on climate and clean energy, including solar, electric vehicles, and energy efficiency standards for data centers.”
  • “THE PUBLIC EDUCATION WORKING GROUP, represented by Marianne Burke, presented their priority bills. She was joined by both SENATOR GHAZALA HASHMI and DELEGATE SAM RASOUL. Senator Hashmi and Delegate Rasoul are patrons of multiple bills that increase funding for Virginia public schools.”
  • “THE GOOD GOVERNANCE WORKING GROUP, represented by April Breslaw, presented their priority bills. She was joined by DELEGATE ELIZABETH BENNETT PARKER, patron of a bill to expand electronic meeting access for state, regional, and local public bodies.”
  • “THE FAMILIES AND WORKERS WORKING GROUP, represented by Marie Ann Leyko, presented their priority bills. She was joined by DELEGATE VIVIAN WATTS patron of a bill that protects political canvassers and a bill that promotes equity in the workforce through gender-balanced and diverse corporate boards.”
  • “THE CAMPAIGN FINANCE REFORM, represented by Nancy, presented their priority bills. She introduced a video of DELEGATE DAVID BULOVA, patron of a bill on campaign contribution limits.”
  • “And lastly, Luisa Boyarski presented the priority bills of the GUN VIOLENCE PREVENTION WORKING GROUP and introduced a video of DELEGATE ADELE MCCLURE speaking about the bills she is patron of that prohibits individuals convicted of domestic abuse (specifically in dating relationships) from possessing a gun.”

There’s some really great stuff in here – listen to the the bills’ patrons talking about them in the video, below – much of which is likely to pass the Democratic-controlled General Assembly. As for what MAGA Glenn Youngkin will do when these bills hit his desk, who knows, but personally I’m assuming he won’t sign almost anything even remotely progressive or pro-clean energy/pro-environment. But who knows, maybe a miracle will happen and Youngkin will start actually working to make Virginia a better place, rather than throwing “red meat” to the far-right MAGA base. Yeah, I know, don’t hold your breath…
