Senator Kaine Defends Virginia Families By Protecting IVF Access While Republicans Continue To Block Reproductive Freedoms

In case you missed it, Senator Tim Kaine once again demonstrated his commitment to the families of Virginia by voting this week to protect the Right to IVF Act —crucial legislation aimed at making in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatments more affordable and accessible for millions of Americans. While Senate Republicans blocked this vital legislation, Senator Kaine continues to fight for the reproductive health care that allows families to plan their futures.

Chris Fleming, spokesperson for Americans for Contraception, said the following:

“Senator Kaine has once again proven he is a champion for families in Virginia. By voting to protect access to IVF, Senator Kaine is standing with families who rely on reproductive health care to build their futures. This legislation not only eases the financial burden on families but affirms their right to make personal health decisions without interference. Senator Kaine’s leadership is what families in Virginia depend on to combat extremist efforts aimed at dismantling their reproductive rights and undermining personal health care choices.”

In stark contrast, Senate Republicans voted against the Right to IVF Act for the second time this year, turning their back on families who rely on affordable fertility treatments. By opposing the Right to IVF Act and the Right to Contraception Act —powerful measures co-sponsored by Senator Kaine—Senate Republicans have made it clear they care more about appeasing extremists than protecting families’ rights to plan their futures.

Americans across the political aisle overwhelmingly back access to IVF and the right to contraception, and it’s time the Senate reflects that by protecting it. The growing disconnect between extreme GOP leaders and their constituents on reproductive rights is undeniable, and it’s putting families’ futures at risk.

While Republican politicians continue to cater to fringe elements pushing for restrictive “personhood” laws that could eliminate IVF and birth control options like Plan B and IUDs, Senator Kaine and Democrats are focused on policies that reflect the values and priorities of American families.
