See below for a press release from Americans for Contraception about its World Contraception Day event earlier today in Woodbridge, Virginia. Also, check out the video and photos (credit to Bert Shepherd), including remarks by VA07 Democratic nominee Eugene Vindman, Del. Briana Sewell (D-Prince William County), Del. Candi King (D-Prince William County), Jamie Lockhart (Executive Director of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia), Lara Bury (Deputy Program Director at Virginia’s Red Wine and Blue) and Walewska Watkins (Contraception storyteller). As Eugene Vindman said:
“Thank you everyone for coming to today’s event to recognize World Contraception Day, which actually follows on the heels of National Daughters Day that I celebrated with my daughter yesterday. So I care deeply about this issue. My name is Eugene Vindman, and let me be very clear: I unequivocally support protecting the right to contraception. Since this…extreme Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade, contraception – like abortion rights and IVF – has been under threat by MAGA extremists across the country. This is an issue where extremists in the MAGA movement are taking away a woman’s fundamental freedoms and putting them in danger…Politicians who want to get between…women and their doctors have no place serving in office. And when they are, they pass extreme legislation to restrict women’s freedoms…What we need are real leaders who will strongly support the right to contraception from Congress to every state house across this country. With the overturning of Roe v Wade, we learned that we cannot take our constitutional rights for granted. Far-right extremists on the Supreme Court have made it clear that they want to overturn Griswold v Connecticut, the case that found contraception is a constitutional right…This is extremism at its worst and an existential threat to fundamental freedoms – freedoms that I spent 25 years in uniform defending…That’s why we need leaders who will not back down from fighting for reproductive freedom today, tomorrow and for years to come until we fully secure that right.”
Well said, and a HUGE contrast with Vindman’s MAGA Republican opponent, Derrick Anderson, who refuses to give a straight answer as to whether or not he supports women’s reproductive freedom. That refual, of course, is because Anderson does NOT support women’s reproductive freedom – but he knows it would be politically damaging for him to say so out loud, so he dodges giving a straight answer. That is the LAST thing we need in Congress, of course – so make sure you vote for Eugene Vindman to succeed Abigail Spanberger as the VA07 member of Congress!

On World Contraception Day, Virginians Sound the Alarm on the Need To Pass Legislation Protecting The Right To Contraception
Veteran Eugene Vindman to Highlight How Protecting the Right to Contraception is a Basic Freedom and Essential to Women’s Health and Well-Being
WOODBRIDGE, Va. — On Thursday, Sept. 26, Virginians, including veteran Eugene Vindman and Virginia State Delegates Candi King and Briana Sewell, will hold an event on World Contraception Day to highlight the urgent need to protect Americans’ reproductive freedoms and the right to contraception.
Drawing from his experience as a 25-year Army veteran who fought to protect Americans’ most fundamental freedoms, Eugene Vindman will speak to how safeguarding the right to contraception is a basic freedom and essential to women’s health and well-being.
Additionally, speakers will address the dangers posed by Republican lawmakers and their extremist allies that seek to undermine the right to contraception and how these threats jeopardize reproductive health and autonomy for millions of Americans. The need to pass federal legislation protecting the right to contraception is more critical than ever. Despite overwhelming public support, 195 House members voted against the federal Right to Contraception Act in 2022. Virginia’s Right to Contraception Act was successfully passed through the General Assembly only to have Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin veto it.
