See below for video and a few highlights from NetworkNOVA’s most recent Friday “Power Lunch,” featuring two Democratic “majority-making” candidates – Kannan Srinivasan and JJ Singh – for the Virginia State Senate and House of Delegates, respectively. As the DLCC explained the other day:
“With two special elections on the horizon in Virginia that will decide legislative majorities in both chambers, the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) today announced two Virginia Spotlight candidates. Del. Kannan Srinivasan is running for SD-32, and JJ Singh is running for HD-26, both of which are must-win races to maintain Democrats’ slim majorities and provide a crucial check on Republican Gov. Youngkin’s power.”
It’s important to note that, while these two districts are both very “blue” according to VPAP (Kamala Harris won Loudoun districts SD32 by about 22 points and HD26 by about 22 points as well), ANYTHING can happen in a special election in early January. As Kannan Srinivasan noted in the Friday Power Lunch, for all we know there could be a snowstorm on January 7, 2025, which is why it’s so important that voters cast their ballots EARLY if possible, starting this Wednesday (12/11). Oh, and don’t forget that we have zero margin for error here, as Democrats hold an extremely narrow 21-19 majority in the Virginia State Senate and an also-tiny 51-49 majority in the House of Delegates. Finally, these two elections will be the first two tests, following the election disaster on November 5th, of whether Democrats are energized – or not – to fight back against what’s shaping up to be the most corrupt, incompetent, extreme administration BY FAR in American history. Let’s make sure the answer to that question is a resounding YES!
- Kannan Srinivasan: “…That is why this election is so important. We are at 21-19 in the Senate…and we are 51-49 [in the House]…I think this is a great opportunity…to send a very strong message; this is the first election after Trump’s trifecta…This is our big opportunity to push back and send a message that Virginia is not going back…We need to win these elections on January 7. Early voting starts this Wednesday, believe it or not…voting by mail is available, Leesburg location is available, on December 28 and January 4 there will be two more locations available on two Saturdays…whatever help you can provide…phone banking…coming out to canvass…writing postcards…calling your friends…This is one form of therapy…We know special elections can be tricky…we could have four inches of snow [on January 7]…The other side will clearly try to snatch this from us…We are seeing what is going to come…the appointments…we were warned…version #2, we don’t know how bad it’s going to be, but it’s going to be bad…But we have an opportunity in Virginia on January 7…start to vote and push back very firmly to say, Virginia we are not going back…It’s all about turnout…People are going to be hurt…the policies that the other side is going to put forward, whether it’s federal employees…reproductive rights…these challenges are coming. The only we can protect is to tell folks to go vote…Let’s send a strong message…Let’s win more seats in the House, let’s get Abigail Spanberger in the governor’s mansion, and then let’s go have a trifecta…”
- JJ Singh: “Back in 2009, now-Leader [Charniele] Herring ran in Alexandria in a special election. This was after President-elect Barack Obama won in a landslide in November 2008. And she won that race in Alexandria by 18 votes – in Alexandria. So this is Loudoun; Loudoun has shifted right in this last election…and anything can happen in a special election. In my primary, in six days, we knocked on 4,750 doors. We need to amp that up dramatically in order to get the turnout we need to win…”
